Michael Anthony Smithwick, 73, of Reidsville, NC, died Saturday (Aug. 31, 2013) at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:00AM Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2013) at Holy Infant Catholic Church with Father Seabo officiating. Inurnment will follow in the columbarium at Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Born in Kilkenny Co., Ireland, he was a son of the late Walter A. and Eileeen Mary Savage Smithwick and had lived in Reidsville 34 years. Mike was a member of Holy Infant Catholic Church, where he had served as the president of the Parrish Council, a former member and avid supporter of the Reidsville Kiwanis Club, the Reidsville Elk?s Lodge and was always very civic minded. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from C. W. Post College in Long Island, NY, was a US Marine Veteran, and was the former Assistant Office Manager of Chase Bag Co. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: John Smithwick.
Surviving are: his wife: Ann McManamy Smithwick of the home; sons: Kevin Smithwick (Elizabeth) of Dublin, Ireland & Brian Smithwick of Reidsville; daughters: Maureen Thayer (Michael) of Harrisburg, NC & Eileen Shepperson (David) of Reidsville; brothers: Peter Smithwick (Deirdre) of Inistioge, Ireland & Paul Smithwick of Thomastown, Ireland; sisters: Ann Smithwick of London, England & Judith S. O?Doherty (Don) of Athboy, Ireland; grandchildren: Kelly Smithwick, Alyssa Smithwick, Katie Thayer, Matthew Thayer, Patrick Smithwick, Anna Shepperson, Shane Smithwick, & Andrew Smithwick.
The family will see friends at the residence and there will be a Prayer Vigil at 7:00PM on Tuesday (Sept. 3, 2013) at the residence. Citty Funeral Home is assisting the Smithwick family.
