    Text SMITHWICK, Ruth Spencer Ruth Spencer Smithwick, beloved wife of the late George R. Smithwick entered into eternal rest Wednesday (March 8, 2006). Ruth was born in Wethersfield, November 3, 1910, the daughter of the late Albert H. and Marguerite (Gilde) Spencer, attended local schools and remained a Wethersfield resident most of her life. She was a Clerical Manager for The Travelers Insurance Co. for 42 years and a member of The Travelers Girls Club. Ruth was also active in church and local organizations; a lifelong member of Wethersfield First Church of Christ, The Wethersfield Historical Society, and for over 60 years the Wethersfield Grange. Ruth will be fondly remembered by her brother Albert H. Spencer of Wethersfield a brother in-law LeRoy Lipp of Westfield, MA.; her step daughter Maureen Stepeck and her husband Dan, her step son-in-law Donald Edigio and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters; Marguerite Gulomb, Dorothy Rand, Alice Lipp and by her step daughter Sheila Edigio. A Celebration of Ruth's life will be held Saturday March 11, at 10 a.m. in the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield with the Reverend Dr. J. Jey Diefell presiding. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Ruth's family will receive relatives and friends in the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service from 9-10 a.m. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Jefferson House for their loving care.
