Robert M. "Doc" Edwards, 71, of Vanderpoel Ave., died Sunday, March 7, at Wolcott Hall Specialty Care in Torrington. He was the husband of Caroline (Murphy) Edwards.
Mr. Edwards was born July 20, 1927, in Bantam, son of the late George L. and Mildred (Montgomery) Edwards. He was a descendent of the Bissell family, who helped settle Litchfield in 1727. He graduated from Litchfield High School and Cheshire Academy and attended American International College in Springfield, Mass. He played baseball for the Litchfield Cowboys. He was a member of the Bantam Fire Company for 45 ears and served as chief for 15 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War If, serving as a member of the medical personnel. He was one of the charter members of the American Legion Tyler-Stewart-Kubish Post 44, for which he served in many capacities over the years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served on the vestry at the time of the expansion of the church. He was formally employed as a carpenter and retired from PTC Aerospace in Bantam and Tru Value Hardware in Litchfield.
Besides his wife of 48 years, he leaves a daughter, Diane Edwards Tanner of Bantam, and two granddaughters.

Wednesday at Rowe Funeral Home, 283
Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial: Bantam Cemetery. Calling hours 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home.
