SILIPIGNO, Anthony J. "Tony", of Holbrook, formerly of Roxbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on December 31, 2015, at the age of 89. Born in Boston, Tony grew up in Roxbury and attended Boston English High School. Tony proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in WWII during the Central Europe and Rhineland campaigns. During his military service he was awarded with several citations including the WWII Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. For 38 years, he worked as a shoe maker for Stride-Rite Shoe in Boston. In his free time Tony enjoyed gardening and fishing and he was an avid sports fan who enjoyed the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, however, he will be remembered most as being a great husband, father and grandfather. Anthony was the husband of the late Mary E. (Reidy) Silipigno. Loving father of Joan Shea of Weymouth, Margaret Sullivan of Brockton, Michael Silipigno of Holbrook and the late James and Joseph Silipigno. Devoted brother of Leo and Stephen Silipigno both of Roslindale. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37) Holbrook, until 11:00 AM on Thursday, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon in St. Joseph Church, 153 So. Franklin St., Holbrook. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Avon. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
