Retired as Quarter Master Sergeant Major from the 70th Regiment of Foot and East India Company.

From Catholic parish registers: "illeg"

Based on the information that we have so far, our strong belief is that the father was Michael Smithwick of Mount Catherine. The geography and timing fits, and the Connell name was associated with Mount Catherine: http://smithwickfamily.org/getperson.php?personID=I290&tree=smithwick

Received a pension in 1869. "Pension The undermentioned warrant officer is admitted to pension as specified opposite to his name Sub conductor J Smithwick of the army commissariat department 2s 6d a day as sergeant major payable in Europe This cancels GGO No 2 of Jan 6" in "Allen's Indian mail and register of intelligence for British and foreign India", p. 567.

From a letter in the possession of Georgia Johnston, John and family rented Mount Catherine upon his retirement from the service.

Robert Smithwick is a sponsor Donovan, Mary (I8185)

Rose is a sponsor for Patrick Cantwell's son Michael -- assuming a sibling, but it could be a cousin or unrelated. Cantwell, PROPOSED Rose (I8702)

Rose Stewart is a PROPOSED connection to Patrick and Mary Jane, due to [1] her father being William Stewart and [2] Patrick Stewart being a witness at her wedding. BUT, she should be from Araboy/Croaghmore, which makes this less reliable. Stewart, Rose (I5179)

Sarah and sister Lettice were witnesses to a deed involving lands at Ballytimmin in 1684 Smithwick, Sarah (I5615)

See this: https://books.google.com/books?id=059iDwAAQBAJpg=PA85 -- could Elizabeth have re-married after the death of John Berington? That theory is tricky, though, because Ralph Delves also appears in a bronze memorial with his wife Katherine -- see https://books.google.com/books?id=RjxAAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA107 Smethwick, Elizabeth (I3305)

Set birthdate to 5 Jul based on numerous sources in US, but maintaining year of 1874. Getty, Robert John (I3029)

Since there is a birth registration later for James, my suspicion is that this James may be the same person as Patrick for whom we have not been able to locate a registration. Buckley, James (I6455)

Terry Keating Smithwick was a very well respected widow of John Keating, MD. She raised her many children after her husband's untimely death and was a popular member of the Democratic party in New Milford. She was elected for several terms as Tax Collector for the town of New Milford. Late in life she married Henry Smithwick.  O'Neill, Theresa Marie (I460)

The 1828 Antrim tithes survey lists a John and James Getty in Benvardin Getty, Mary (I8225)

The 1901 census records her age as 66, which would be a 1836 birthday. But, a marriage in 1846 would have her only 11 years only, so I think the census may be incorrect. Bray, Bridget (I7714)

The 1920 US Census indicates that both Charles and Dora were in second marriages. Using this as a placeholder until we know Charles' first wife. Family F3188

The actual marriage was most likely in 1902-1903, but this was one done for civil registration. Family F692

The connections between the Grady and Deane families are confusing because two sisters each married a Standish. From

The current theory is that this Sarah's surname was Goldman, and her parents were Szlama and Szajna -- http://www.smithwickfamily.org/getperson.php?personID=I9129&tree=smithwick. There are DNA matches to descendants of this couple. The only confirmation that I am aware of her name/marriage to Szapsia comes from a Social Security claim for son Charles. Goldman?, Sarah (Sure) (I2039)

The departure immigration record from May 1895 from Hamburg lists Moses/male, and the arrival record from June 1895 in New York lists Marie/female. Brumer, Moses or Marie (I7574)

The father listed in the marriage registration is Hugh, but I believe it to be Daniel, for several reasons: age, geography, profession of father (bootmaker), and the lack of other Hughs born at the same time still living. Family F2343

The following may apply to Archie or his sons: McIlroy Archibald of Currysheskan county Antrim farmer died 25 June 1933 Probate Belfast 21 December to John McLaughlin junior farmer. Effects £23 5s. McElroy, Archibald (I5011)

The Index to the Prerogative Wills of Ireland includes: 1802 Glison, Elizabeth, Dublin, widow  Elizabeth (I937)

The info does not square with the town Carnane which Michael was supposedly living in, but the birth year matches: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1927/04969/4353056.pdf Connell, Michael (I6973)

The last record I have of Chaim is the passenger list from 14 Jun 1929 traveling on the Aquitania from Cherbourg to NYC, and he listed wife Blima and brother David. I have no further records of Chaim, Blima, or children.

It also appears that Chaim had been deported on 7 May 1929 as an illegal alien.
Respler, Hyman (Chaim) (I2026)

The marriage record lives Timothy as from Eightercua, but I believe this to be a transcription error -- Julia Donnelly who married Cornelius is from Eightercua. Donnelly, Bridget (I8520)

The mother's name listed appears to be Anne, but I'm inclined to think this is the same Edward with a mistake. No other Edwards have been found in this era. Buckley, Dan (I6413)

The name listed here is Anne, but I believe based on age that she is the same person. Wallace, Elizabeth Ann (I7359)
