      Daniel Philip Stepeck Sr., 83, of Kensington, died Friday, April 29, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

      Born in East Haven, the son of the late Edward R. and Esther K. Stepeck, he lived in New Britain and Southington before moving to Kensington in 1973. He was the loving and devoted husband to Maureen Stepeck for 57 years.

      Dan played football for both New Britain High School and the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1951 and 1957, respectively. In the years between Dan served in the Korean War.

      Dan achieved Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the purpose of which is to foster patriotism and encourage Catholic citizenship. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose at Lodge #183. In addition, he was a 39-year member of Shuttle Meadow Country Club and an active member of St. Paul's Church.

      Dan worked for the Knights of Columbus for many years prior to owning and operating the family business, Smithwick Insurance Agency, for more than 35 years.

      Dan was predeceased by his loving wife, Maureen, and is survived by their daughter Sarah S. Rosol and her husband Robert C. Rosol and their children Timothy C. Rosol, Theodore M. Rosol and Shawna A. Rosol of Kensington; their son Daniel P. Stepeck Jr. and his wife Carin L. Stepeck and their children Sydney C. Stepeck and Daniel P Stepeck III (Trey) of Farmington; their son Timothy S. Stepeck of Santa Monica, Calif.; their daughter Maura Stepeck and her husband William H. Dornfried Jr. and their children, Siobhan M Dornfried and Terrence S. Dornfried of Kensington; their daughter Megan A. Szczesniak and her husband Adam Szczesniak and their children Molly V. Szczesniak, Logan T. Szczesniak and Addision G. Szczesniak of Kensington; their son George E. Stepeck of Kensington, and their daughter Bridget Holt and her husband Timothy P. Holt and their children Madailein V. Holt, Cailin M. Holt, Aislinn K. Holt and Tegwyn A. Holt of Livermore Calif.; and his loving companion Freckles, his French Bulldog.

      He is survived by his sister Laura Broughton and her husband Walter, his sister Natalie Lundgren and his brother Gregory Stepeck and his wife Karen.

      Funeral services will be held Wednesday (May 4, 2016) at 10:30 a.m. from the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Kensington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
